What Makes A House, Your Home!

For a long time of my life, while I was working in a different city, I lived in a rented house. Whenever anyone asked me where was my home, the reflex was always- in Rajkot, my hometown. Then they would rephrase the question for me and asked, ‘where do you live here (with the emphasis on the word, here)?’, to which my answer was always- the blue house on the fifth street.

A home is more than a box of bricks, concrete and glass. A home is an emotion. It is where I go on holidays and not where I bring the stress after a long day of work. My home makes me feel comfortable and relaxed, not where I have to take permission of someone to make the tiniest change, almost invisible in the first glance.

A home is not necessarily the perfectly designed houses appearing on the glossy pages of a magazine. Though we always refer to it for better ideas. It inspires us and gives us a clearer idea on what we want. But the neatly arranged sheets and properly photographed interiors does not make a home. It is usually messy and always in a process building up as the life goes on. A home is filled of numerous intangible aspects.

It takes genuine efforts to transform a house into your home. Homes are made of memories. Many people fill their houses with souvenirs from their travels. Few people also showcase their collections of different things in their house. A home is the reflection of its inhabitants. It is the embodiment of the lives they have led and wish to live. It consists of simple as well as grand gestures of life.

A home is the cacophony of children. It is where your pets hijack the couch. Home is filled with the aroma of delicious food cooked together. It is where you be comfortable. Home is the warmth you seek, after a long day of work.
