The Difference- Between Space And Place

After half an hour, it not only confused the students more but also the professor and she ended the subject saying, enough discussions for the day. However, I gathered that space is a general notion while place is more specific. I believe there are many students not only of architecture, but philosophy and geography with the same dilemma. 

A philosopher Yi-Fu Tuan and the geographer Edward Relph tried defining space and place and they came to a similar conclusion. According to them, space is abstract, without any substantial meaning. Whereas a place is how people identify a certain piece of space. The difference can be described in the extent to which humans attach meaning or be aware of it. A meaning can be adjoined in two ways; through the employment of senses or by signs & symbols.
